Allergies and Candida
Many food allergy suffers find it quite a surprise that their condition is possibly caused by a Candida Albicans overgrowth and can be overcome with focused changes to their lifestyle. The connection is not obvious but often the dairy and gluten allergies are Candida related.
Once a Candida overgrowth has occurred in your digestive tract it cause damage to your intestines known as Leaky Gut Syndrome (Intestinal Permeability). This disease causes allergic reactions but eliminating it will cure some of your food intolerance’s and it can be treated at the same time as the Candida overgrowth.
Leaky Gut Syndrome
Leaky Gut Syndrome is a condition that affects the intestinal wall causing it to become inflamed and fragile. This can occur when you eat very spicy food, drink too much coffee, alcohol or use strong laxatives. A Candida overgrowth can also cause Leaky Gut Syndrome due to the fact that the yeast cells attach to the intestinal walls and gradually penetrate the membrane into the bloodstream.
Once the intestinal membrane is perforated Candida cells and food particles are able to pass into the bloodstream. Your immune system detects the foreign particles and responds as if they where pathogens by sending specialized immune cells called macrophages. In order to prevent against future attack the immune system makes antibodies ready for when it next identify’s the intruding particles. The next time you eat this particular food the immune system responds. It’s this hypersensitive immune response that causes the allergic reaction and your food intolerance symptoms.
Controlling and repairing Leaky Gut Syndrome damage is of primary importance when fighting a Candida overgrowth because the allergic reactions that it causes places additional stress on the immune system and adrenal glands. This in turn can make the Candida symptoms worse and the overgrowth harder to fight off.
Treating Leaky Gut Syndrome
Treating Leaky Gut Syndrome has been found to help people suffering from food allergy reactions. Both Candida and Leaky Gut Syndrome can be treated at the same time by adopting the Anti Candida Diet Plan which will weaken the Candida in your intestines and restore their integrity.
As previously mentioned, there are several things that you should avoid that will reduce the inflammation in your gut:
- Avoid powerful laxatives
- Avoid eating strong spices
- Avoid caffeine
- Avoid alcohol
Ensure that your diet is high in good quality soluble fibers:
- Raw vegetables
- Psyllium husks
- Dried beans, peas and pulses
- Wild rice
Maintaining a high fibre diet reduces the transit time of the food you eat in your gut and thus reduces the chance of it passing into your bloodstream while the inflammation is still present.
Try to become aware of any reactions that you experience after consuming foods that you may be developing an intolerance towards. Try to not consume the foods you have an intolerance towards (in any quantity however small) for several days. This gives you immune system a break and reduces the chance of you developing a more severe allergic reaction.
