Sometimes known as Montmorillonite, Bentonite Clay is an edible form of volcanic ash and one of the most effective cleansing clays used to treat a range of external and internal maladies. It is composed of small particles that increase in volume considerably in liquid. Due to these powerful absorbing properties, it is often used in colon cleanses to trap and absorb the toxins in the intestinal tract and can be applied to skin when used externally.
For the Candida sufferer it is especially effective in helping absorb the toxins that are produced during the ‘Die-Off’ phase of the cleanse and thus making it more bearable. Adding a source of fiber, like Psyllium husks to the clay is advisable as this helps the intestines process the mixture and is even more effective at removing the dead Candida yeast cells.
How does Bentonite clay work?
You may be wondering if it is really a good idea to eat clay, and that is an understandable reaction as it is an usual thing to do. However, Bentonite Clay is very safe to ingest because it is inert. This means that although it itself is absorbent and can soak up toxins, it cannot be digested and assimilated by your body. These special properties make it an ideal component in a detoxifying cleanse.
Bentonite is especially good at absorbing oils and chemical toxins. During a cleanse as it travels through your intestines and traps impacted fecal matter, Candida yeast cells and toxins in the process, allowing you to then excrete them in the natural way. This cleanse is highly effective especially when combined with Psyllium husks. These indigestible fibrous husks scour your gut as they move through, dislodging impacted matter in the process. The first time you do a cleanse, it is advisable to use a more gentle fiber source such as ground flax seed, especially if you have been suffering from Leaky Gut Syndrome or IBS.
